Note Card Box

Make a note card box for your homemade note cards or stationery.

A note card box is simple to make. You just cut, score and fold and your box is done.

In fact, you can make a simple box like this of almost any size to fit anything your need a box for.

Look here for a tutorial on note paper toddlers can make for Mom.

What you need

Sturdy card stock or cardboard

Scissors or cutter

Ruler

Glue or Tape to hold the box together

Stamp, Stickers, Markers or whatever you need to decorate the box

What you do

1. Decide what size note card box you need. You will probably want it just a little larger than what you will put in it.

2. Decide how deep the box needs to be, and add double that amount (for a 1 inch deep box, you will need 1 inch on each side - so you need to add 2 inches for the sides and 2 inches for the top and bottom) to the box dimensions.

3. I needed this note card box to be 5 inches wide by 6 and 1/2 inches high, and 1 inch deep when it was finished. So I cut a piece of card stock 7 inches wide by 8 and 1/2 inches high.

That allowed 5 inches across plus 1 inch for each side. And 6 1/2 inches high with 1 inch for each end.

4. I made the box bottom 1/8 of an inch narrower in each direction than the box top to make the lid fit on more easily.

5. For a 1 inch deep box, score 1 inch in from each side and then fold and crease along the score line. Do this for all 4 sides of both the box bottom and box top.

6. On each end, cut in from the edge to the score line, cutting on the score line. See photo for clarification.

7. Decorating the note card box is easiest before you glue the ends. Stamp the top, use stickers, or draw pictures with markers or crayons.

8. Using double sided tape or glue, fold the small flaps inside the ends and attach to the ends at each corner. If you use glue (which holds better), use clothespins to hold the flap in place until glue is set.

9. Once the glue is dry on all the corners, your box is ready to use.

Tips

If you are using brown or gray card board such as a recycled cereal box, you can glue pretty paper on it before you score the edges and glue the ends.

If you use corrugated card board, be careful not to cut through the paper when you are scoring.
